Which effect actually hides text?
Blur and pixelation look final, but they are filters: they smear the original pixels rather than removing them. On a photo that is fine. On a screenshot of a one-time code, where the font and spacing are predictable, it can leave enough behind to guess the characters back.
Try the three methods on a sample card number. Push the strength down and notice how the digit shapes survive a light blur.

How to blur part of a picture
- Open the image. Drop it on the editor, paste a screenshot straight from the clipboard, or tap Choose image on a phone.
- Pick an effect. Blur, Pixelate, Solid box or Emoji. The strength slider applies to the box you have selected.
- Drag over each sensitive area. Move a box by dragging it, resize it from the round corner handle, and delete it with the button or the Delete key. Undo works with Ctrl/⌘+Z.
- Zoom out and check. Look for the same detail repeated elsewhere: a name in the header and again in a signature, or an email address in a URL bar.
- Download or copy. The export is a fresh PNG or JPEG drawn from pixels only, so location and camera data from the original file are gone.

BlurShot is a static page. Your image is read into a canvas, edited with ordinary JavaScript and saved with the browser's own encoder. You can load the page, switch off Wi-Fi and it still works. Questions people ask
Is my screenshot uploaded anywhere?
No. The image is decoded and edited with the canvas API inside your browser tab. The only exception is the optional "Find areas with AI" button, which asks for confirmation and then sends a downscaled copy to a vision model to get box positions back.
Can someone unblur what I blurred?
Sometimes. A light blur or small-block pixelation over short text in a known font can be matched by guessing. For passwords, card numbers, account IDs and anything legal or medical, use the Solid box effect, which replaces the pixels completely.
Does BlurShot remove EXIF and GPS data?
Yes. Every download and copy is re-drawn from pixels only, so camera model, location, timestamps and editing history in the original file are not carried over.
Can I blur part of a screenshot on my phone?
Yes. Open blurshot.io in Safari or Chrome, tap Choose image, pick the screenshot from your photos, then drag a finger over the area to cover. Download saves it back to your files or photos.
Is there a watermark, limit or sign-up?
No watermark, no account and no image limit. The editor handles images up to 5000 pixels on the long side; larger ones are scaled to fit.
Which effect should I use for what?
Blur keeps a screenshot readable while hiding faces or background detail. Pixelate is the classic "censored" look. Solid box is for anything that must be unrecoverable. Emoji is a friendly way to hide faces in social posts.
