Introduction

Welcome to BlurShot. We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring you have a positive experience using our service. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information when you use BlurShot.

Privacy-First Design

TL;DR: Your images stay local for all editing tools. All image processing happens in your browser. The optional AI face detection feature requires explicit consent and sends images to Vercel AI Gateway for processing (not stored after request completes).

What Information We Collect

Images and Files

We do NOT collect your images. When you upload or paste an image into BlurShot:

  • Your image is processed entirely in your web browser using HTML5 Canvas API
  • The image is stored temporarily in your browser's memory (RAM) while you edit it
  • Your image is never uploaded to our servers or any third-party servers
  • When you close the browser tab or refresh the page, the image is permanently removed from memory
  • We have no access to, visibility of, or control over the images you process

Exception: The optional Auto-Blur Faces preset sends an encrypted snapshot of your canvas to the Vercel AI Gateway only after you grant consent. The image is discarded immediately after face boxes are returned.

Analytics and Usage Data

BlurShot loads analytics only after you explicitly consent via the banner at the bottom of the site. When you click “Allow analytics,” we load Ahrefs Web Analytics (analytics.ahrefs.com) to gather aggregated usage metrics such as:

  • Page views, navigation patterns, and high-level engagement events
  • Device type, browser version, and approximate screen size
  • Approximate location (country/city) and referral sources
  • Performance metrics that help us troubleshoot slow pages

Declining the banner keeps Ahrefs disabled. In both cases we never collect images, edit history, IP addresses, or other personally identifiable information.

Cookies and Local Storage

BlurShot uses browser local storage for the following purposes:

  • User Preferences: Saving your tool settings (blur intensity, pixel size, etc.)
  • Analytics Consent: We store a single flag remembering whether you allowed Ahrefs Web Analytics.

We do not use cookies for advertising, tracking across websites, or profiling users.

How We Use Information

The limited, anonymized data we collect is used solely to:

  • Improve the user experience and functionality of BlurShot
  • Monitor and analyze usage trends and patterns
  • Identify and fix technical issues or bugs
  • Understand which features are most valuable to users
  • Ensure our service is working correctly across different devices and browsers

We will NEVER:

  • Sell your data to third parties
  • Use your data for advertising purposes
  • Share your data with advertisers or data brokers
  • Track you across other websites or apps
  • Create user profiles or engage in behavioral targeting

Third-Party Services

BlurShot uses the following third-party services:

Vercel (Hosting & AI Gateway)

BlurShot is deployed on Vercel. All HTML, CSS, and JavaScript assets are served from their infrastructure, and the optional Auto-Blur Faces feature routes encrypted images through Vercel's AI Gateway using the openai/gpt-5-nano model. Images sent to the AI Gateway are discarded immediately after the detection response.

Ahrefs Web Analytics (Opt-In)

If you click “Allow analytics,” we load Ahrefs Web Analytics to capture anonymized traffic trends (page views, referrers, device statistics). The script never receives your screenshots or edit history, and declining the banner keeps it disabled.

No Advertising Trackers

Aside from Vercel hosting and the optional Ahrefs integration above, BlurShot does not embed advertising networks, social media pixels, or third-party analytics SDKs.

Data Security

Since we don't collect your images or personal information, there is minimal risk of data breaches involving your content. However, we take the following security measures:

  • HTTPS Encryption: All connections to BlurShot are encrypted using HTTPS/TLS
  • Client-Side Processing: All editing tools process images locally. The optional AI face detection feature requires consent and uses Vercel AI Gateway (images not stored)
  • No Server Storage: We don't store images on servers, so they can't be compromised
  • Secure Hosting: Our website is hosted on Vercel's secure infrastructure
  • Regular Updates: We keep our dependencies and code up-to-date with security patches

Important: While BlurShot processes images locally for privacy, you are responsible for securing your own device. Ensure your device has up-to-date security software and that you're using a trusted, secure network when working with sensitive information.

Your Rights

Because we collect minimal data and never store your images, many traditional privacy rights don't apply. However, you have the following controls:

  • Analytics Consent: Decline the in-app banner (or clear site data to revisit it) and Ahrefs Web Analytics will remain disabled. You can also block analytics via extensions such as uBlock Origin.
  • Clear Local Storage: You can clear BlurShot's local storage at any time through your browser's settings (this will reset your preferences)
  • Browser Controls: You can disable cookies and local storage entirely in your browser, though this may affect functionality

Children's Privacy

BlurShot does not knowingly collect any personal information from children under 13. Our service is designed to be privacy-first and does not require registration, so we have no way to determine the age of our users. Parents and guardians should supervise children's use of BlurShot.

International Users

BlurShot is accessible globally. Since all image processing happens client-side in your browser, your images never cross international borders via our service. Optional services (Vercel hosting/AI Gateway and Ahrefs Analytics) operate within their own compliant infrastructure and process only the limited data described above.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements. When we make changes, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.

If we make material changes that significantly affect how we handle data, we will post a prominent notice on our homepage.
